Toyota websites all down - FAIL

Whenever I see something like this I find it pretty damn funny. With all the horsepower that Toyota has, they can't even keep their customer facing websites running? Sure it will be back up as soon as someone comes into the office and sees the 8000 email messages about this they probably already have, and addresses it, but shit like this just should not happen in the first place. (And if other technical issues do arise, some that are less controllable than a db log full, the customer should certainly never be presented with the server dump error page.)

And now for more Google news: the Google browser is here - Chrome

Ars has the Chrome scoop

I am trying to get out of the bad habit of just posting links, but, I haven't had time to look into Chrome yet, and this is such a big story even the link might be valuable if you haven't heard about it.

UPDATE

EFF brings out Switzerland tool to test ISPs

Net neutrality, Switzerland, get it.

Yeah it's clever, but it's also very cool. Switzerland, brought to you by the EFF (really, you are a member by now, you have made a donation, right?) is a tool for testing ISPs to determine what kind of packet shaping is going on, if any.

Ex-Googlers build new search: Cuil

I still haven't figured out exactly what one of their edicts - "popularity is useful but not always but important" - actually means, like a lot of the other marketese, but Cuil is here.

It has a pleasing look (with a main blank black page, direct contrast to Google while still getting the non-clutter concept), and some handy features like search suggestions in the search box, and an appealing privacy policy that notes that they don't save any user information or even have search logs.

Revision3 DOSed by MediaDefender

It seems MediaDefender is even worse than most of us could imagine.

The case of them attacking legitimate torrent trackers isn't all that surprising, but the openness and disregard for reality and legality are - even now (not numb yet I guess). And *YES* there are such things as legit torrents and legit P2P networks, assclowns.
