Big in Japan, and now the states are catching up: QR Codes

Tagged:
I just installed my first mobile phone application on my G1 Android phone using a QR Code linked on a web page. If you know all about this and it's old hat (apparently it's been big in Japan for quite some time), then that won't impress much, but if you haven't seen it before, like me, it's really damn impressive - the people that just saw me do thought it was cool as hell too. Here is how I installed Google Listen, I went to the download page that contains an image of the QR Code: http://listen.googlelabs.com/download.html Listen QR Code Then I pointed my phone at the computer screen to scan the image, then I clicked the link that was decoded and hit the "install" button and voila! Nice.

Wow that is slick

The listen app looks cool as well. Any word on when the next generation of android phones (isn't Motorola coming out with something nice?) are due to ship? I am happily ready to pass my iPhone on to someone else in the office.

Yeah actually 2 Motorola

Yeah actually 2 Motorola phones are supposed to drop soon, one with the Sholes CPU (nice). I don't know the exact dates, I try to not worry about all that (there are literally 20 that are "about" to drop). I think AndroidGuys has info on them, and Engadget, etc.

Cool Stuff

I saw this recently storespecials.com.au whereby the QR codes are on every product

QR Codes on badges

iPhone Camp Atlanta did QR codes on badges (see my blog write-up), embedding the attendees name, company, e-mail, and Twitter URL. Way slick. I'd love to see most/all conferences do this.
