Bess came home today (1966 Mustang)

I have been hunting for a vintage Mustang for some time now. Today Delaney and I found it. Behold, Bess (we named her today too), a 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe "C" code (289 V8 2barrel). Remaining before pictures are located at /images/bess. 1966 Mustang TV commercial She needs some work, of course, but I think it's a great project car - not too much rust (though yes, some), runs as is (we drove it home, ~60 miles, runs great), and importantly all original parts (including engine and trans, a "matching numbers" car). I chose a Mustang as my first car restoration project (I have done motorcycles and jet-skis before, but not a car) because I think they are cool as hell, and because of the availability of parts. I am going to tear it all the way down, then soda blast everything, and replace whatever is needed. I will also break down the engine and trans and go through it as well. I plan to buy some new body panels, replace (weld) some sheet metal, etc - and I will send it out for paint (that I don't plan to tackle myself, but prep, yes). It already has a new gas tank, but pretty much everything else needs the once over clean/repair/replace. Big job, but in the end I am hoping it will be worth it to have the satisfaction of driving a true classic that I rebuilt myself.

Awesome

That's the exact car, that I restored all through High School. Mine started as the white color (don't remember the color code) and it was all original. My brothers and I restored it up to stock, and then painted it a deep maroon purple. We stayed very street stock not going the hot rod route that was very popular back then (I graduated in 1980, so it's been a long while). We were psyched to find a straight 1966 Coupe back in '79, I believe it's quite a feat 30 years later! Keep us updated!

Thanks man. I will

Thanks man. I will definitely keep this space posted. I am pretty excited about it, and am definitely going to go all original as I restore it. Might be a bigger job than I bargained for, but I am not in a hurry ;).
