Brayton has a very resonant piece about saying goodbye to Daschle. I support Obama in general, but I agree it's good that Daschle is out, and it was abominable that he was picked in the first place. (I also agree with the 4th level quoted sentiment in that article from Matt Taibbi that the only one worse would have been Frist.)
I really liked the new ethics rules Obama laid down on day one. Many people are now talking about how tough that we be to actually do - not use lobbyists in the admin, etc - but that's no excuse not to actually do it. I was dismayed at the two people that the Obama admin gave "waivers" to (like the Raytheon clown in defense) - bullshit, you lobbied, you're out.
In my mind the major problem with our government today (and it has many problems) is the special interests and lobbyists and the general way the machine works in relation to them. We even solicit ideas FROM lobbyists on legislation, etc. Let's cut the crap to get past all the conflicts of interest and bring in logic and reason and rationale, like Obama also promised, please.
