Although Nortel can currently only demo their 80 Gbps fiber platform, which they are presenting at Telecom '99, their lab has acheived a pretty quick speed of 6.4 Terabits per second on a single optical fiber. Sure it may be 280 million times faster than my 28.8kbps modem and 40 thousand times faster than the typical ATM fiber connection,but I refuse to be impressed until I see it being used somewhere practically.
