A bit of buzz today about Battlefield 2142 and a trailer from DICE which, by the way is now officially controlled by EA, the Darth Vader of the video game world. I wonder how 2142 will stack up to ET:QW.

No one is sure what to make of this yet. Some say its going to be a BF3, some say a MOD for BF2, some say its going to be a console only game, and some even say its an april fools thing. The only one that sounds feasable is that it will be a MOD for BF2. Either way it should be fun, kinda has a Tribes feel. People have seemed to forget that Tribes did this massive first person shit waaaay before EA. As far as Quake Wars... I hope it works for them(ID). Because (I hate to actually say it, but...) Doom 3 and Quake 4 tanked.

Well, D3 and Q4 maybe didn't set the world on fire, but I think it is tough to say they tanked. I still think Q4 is one of the finest shooters made, personally.

yes let me clairify... when I mentioned the word "tanked" I was referring to the online community (active players) and not the games themselves. http://www.csports.net/TopGames.aspx While the "Online Now" doesn't seem to be correct in all the games the "names in 31 days" i think does.

True. Neither of them was really centered on the Multiplayer game, though. Not in the same vein as Battlefield. I suspect that the new Enemy Territory, though, will take its place somewhere in the area where Wolf:ET is, though. D3 wasn't ever really about muliplayer, and Q4s was really just an update to Q3s. Looking at that list, I am surprised at how far down 1942 is... I still think Galactic Conquest and Desert Combat are very much worth playing. Hell DC might be better than BF2.
