Dan and the ThinkPad X40

Dan Gilmor is looking for assistance on getting a Linux distro for his ThinkPad. The TPs have historically been a beeyotch to get everything supported under Linux, but it has gotten better. I might point you to Fedora my personal favorite distro. This still doesn't have support for everything on the X40, but there is a really nice HOWTO on getting the MADWIFI stuff and TPB to support those extra buttons for the X40.

RE: Dan and the ThinkPad X40

Somedays I get the feeling that I'm the only person on the planet that does not use those extra buttons all over keyboards today. I hate those things...

RE: Dan and the ThinkPad X40

I don't know. I use the volume buttons. At one point in time I used the "play/pause/ff" buttons, but now that I am linux full time I have never found a way to get my Logitech Cordless Comfort Duo buttons to work right. The silly "Email" "Search" whatever buttons, yeah, teeter on useless.

RE: Dan and the ThinkPad X40

I never use that crap. At one point I was accidentally hitting some silly ass "extra" button on my current keyboard (located lower left between ctrl and alt, looks like little waving flag thing ;) - so I fricking ripped it off of there. That and all the wake, sleep, sound, internet, email and so on buttons, pshaaw. Get that crap off the keyboard, you aint the only one Shmooze.
