Michael Robertson, founder of mp3.com and Linspire has lets say a "checkered past" but the new project he is heading up has the potential to become popular (in concept at least, the implementation looks pretty weak at present). BadFruit makes BadApple. BadApple is significant because it will allow you to sync any USB based mp3 player with iTunes.
As I have said in the past I think the strength of Apple iPod/iTunes is the SOFTWARE. Yeah the players are nice but its the nice looking, easy to use, intuitive interface, aka iTunes, that makes Apple superior at present to everything else (everything I have seen).
BadApple (despite the stupid name) is a concept that makes sense, allow other mp3 players to use iTunes via a plugin - of course you are in sketchy territory once you do that (legally and software wise).
