The Beijing Evening News recently ran a piece about the insanity of Americans. "A shocking story of American hubris: Congress was behaving like a petulant baseball team and threatening to bolt Washington, D.C., unless it got a new, modern Capitol building, complete with retractable roof." The only problem with the story, well uh, its like, not true. Not only that its plagiarised and the real source was not credited. Whoops. Then the paper (presumably a paper, I dont know) refused to acknowledge their error and demanded "proof it wasn't true". The real source happened to be the Onion!
ROTFLMAO
And in another incident. The Branch County sheriff's department in Coldwater, Michigan, was investigation telemarking fraud. On the case as they were they somehow came across a story about al-Qaida doing telemarketing in the US. They issued an URGENT press release QUOTING GEORGE TENET former CIA director as such: ""In the course of this investigation, it was learned that this is going on throughout the United States, and some of these telemarketing programs are believed to be operated by al-Qaida. . . . The CIA has announced that they acquired a videotape showing al-Qaida members making phone solicitations for vacation home rentals, long-distance telephone service, magazine subscriptions and other products."
Those fucking al-Qaida bastards, dammit, not only do they blow us up but those same jackasses that sold me that time share in New Jersey!!!
Only problem with the little press release by the POLICE DEPARTMENT, is that Mr. Tenet never said such an thing and again the plagiarised source was the Onion. The police department detective who wrote the release says he "came across this story" and doesnt have a source. Then afterwards he says he "feels duped".
For the real details, pay no attention to me, and read the linked Wired article. Onion Taken Seriously, Film at 11
