Astronomer/Physicist Stephen Hawking's family are asking police to investigate a series of "assualts" that they feel may be the result of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.
Hawking has spoken with police about the matter and vehemently denies that anything of the sort is going on.
However, the hospital records and the pleas of Hawkings children from his first wife seem to be spurring on at least a cursory investigation.
Hawkings current wife is the focus of the investigation. (Whom he married after he met when she was a nurse that cared for him. She was also the wife of the man who made his "voice box". Hawking left his first wife, whom he had been married to for more than two decades for the current wife. These facts are relevant because the family apparently "loathes" the current wife and this could be reason false claims and ulterior motives?)
A similar investigation was begun and dropped in 2000. Hawking then also denied anything was going on and threatened to sue for harrassment. The police dropped the matter. Based on medical evidence and hospital records ("unexplained" injuries such as cuts, bruises and even broken bones) suspicions have again been aroused.
For more see the linked brit articles. One is the Mirror talking about the probe and one is the Scotsman with Hawkings statement that its all malarchy. POLICE PROBE HAWKING "ASSAULT": Mirror
