SuSE makes full version 9 (in FTP install form) available

Tagged:
Reacting to disgruntled Red Hat users SuSE has made its rev 9 downloadable on their FTP servers. SuSE has only had an eval for years, they did have an FTP install procedure for 9. For more see the linked Oreilly article. Update: At the time of writing I could not hit the FTP servers due to volume. I saw some discussion somewhere (or pulled it out of my arse, its possible) that ISOs were available now. Apparently thats NOT the case, my apologies. The linked article links to another article that states what is available is a full FTP install version. This is confusing to me because a year or so back that was available as well (not an eval as far as I know). SO I am not sure whats "new" about this at all if there are no ISOs. And, I would add it sucks ass that they apparently DO NOT have ISOs, and FTP install is better than nothing, but its not great.   SuSE Moves on Redhat Users With SuSE 9 FTP Installation

Re: SuSE makes full version 9 ISOs available

Thanks for this info - that's good news. Who builds pc's with a floppy drive anymore anyway?

Re: SuSE makes full version 9 ISOs available

Hooray, Its about time SuSE got with the program. BTW.. I build PCs with a floppy drive.

Re: SuSE makes full version 9 ISOs available

I think I might be some form of magneto mutant. I can't pick up a floppy and insert it into a drive without receiving an error reading drive message. Now these little pocket USB 512MB devices... they rock...

Re: SuSE makes full version 9 ISOs available

pocket USB 512 BOOTING the computer and running your iptables script, hence it is now your firewall/router, that rocks. (i dont have this working yet, because obviously i am not the man, but a friend told me he has this setup working, yet to see it but it sounds totally plausible).

Re: SuSE makes full version 9 ISOs available

The linked article says nothing about ISO's and their FTP server and mirrors have no ISO download. You need to check your source and revise this article.

Re: SuSE makes full version 9 ISOs available

OK, will do. I had heard they made ISOs avail, dont recall where now. But you are correct the linked article doesnt mention them. At the time of writing I was not able to get on the FTP servers. So if ISOs are not there, what is? Because they have always had an FTP install mode?

Re: SuSE makes full version 9 ISOs available

Any luck on this? I've also been digging and googling around for these elusive ISO's, but with no luck. FYI (everyone here probably knows this by now, but, what the heck), the Live Eval CD's are sweet for troubleshooting seemingly unbootable boxes with. Boot to the CD, and SuSE mounts any available drives for you. Move the data [to another box], or what have you.
