DARPA has issued a steep challenge to scientists, engineers and robot afficionados. Build a robotic car that can win a race from LA to Vegas. The car cannot be controlled by remote, it has to be entirely on its own (except for emergency restarts and a few other exceptions) and no one will not know the course until 2 hours before the race. The course will include debris, bolders, sand, fences, mountains and at least one overpass where GPS will not work. Oh, and you not only have to win the race but it has to be in less than 10 hours.
