COPA Net Porn Law Dragged Back Up: news.com

Several congresspeople are determined to get COPA passed. Almost all of congress was outraged when the 3rd circuit court declared COPA unconstitutional.

The court was correct. Despite a supreme court review that sent the case back to the circuit courts saying they should consider a few aspects differently the law is still flawed.

What the congress and every other clown needs to realize is that none of the people that are against this law (such as the Internet Content Coalition, which includes MSNBC, The New York Times, CNET Networks and more) are FOR child porn. Quite the contrary. Thats not the point.

This law states that it is a crime to publish "any communication for commercial purposes that includes any material that is harmful to minors, without restricting access to such material by minors." Yeah, you read that right. Thats in the law. Could the lawmakers be any more vague and ridiculous. (Thats a big problem with US laws in general, they are either too vague or too specific and include terms like "harmful" which are very ambiguous.) Even if this were the law, what good would it do. Would this be something that we can enforce, could we prove it in court? Its silly.

No kids should not be looking at porn. However there are LOTS of things kids should not be exposed to until they are mature enough to deal with them, those things can be found in places other than online media such as movies, books, games and yes even this thing called conversation and life.

What kids need are PARENTS that pay attention to what they are exposed to, not some silly legislation that makes it illegal to post anything "harmful" to them. Hell Coca Cola and McDonalds both have websites that are "harmful" to kids if it persuades them to use their products. Again, silly.
