Thanks to /. for the lead on the latest technological advancement. Someone has finally undertaken the implementation of rfc1149, which was proposed April 1, 1990. Rfc1149 or CPIP as it is more commonly known (Carrier Pigeon Internet Protocol) will certainly be the avian IP standard of the future.
Sneakernet and the famous "never underestimate the power of a 79 Plymouth wagon with magnetic tapes" quote may have to yield to this new more environmentally friendly approach. CPIP can move massive amounts of data with the right amount of transport media (and a big hose to clean up.)
