D-VHS takes on DVD: Wired, slashdot

slashdot has a lead to an interesting Wired story about the newly unveiled D-VHS format. D-VHS has better resolution that DVD and due to several factors would be hard to copy and distribute electronically (one of the factors being size.)
This makes it attractive to media companies for the copyright and piracy protection and to videophiles for the clarity, but will it fly?
The slashdot author makes perfect sense when stating that the head start of DVD and the hefty D-VHS price tag may make it obsolete before it ever gets rolling. Personally, I love DVDs, cheap, great quality and getting fairly abundant (I would not be willing to go D-VHS, and better does not always mean it flies, take BETA vs. VHS?)
