ZDNet has an article today about the new BubbleBoy "virus" that claims it is a "shocker." Well, not really, this is a well known problem with Microsoft software. In fact BubbleBoy isnt even really a virus, it is not an infection of malicious code, it is simply a "feature" of Microsoft. This is again ridiculous, just as was Mailissa. Its not hype, its real, but its not a virus either. The key to BubbleBoy is that you dont have to open any attachment to get the "worm" to spread. This is supposedly "new" and "never been done before." Well, it has been done, but again, its not a virus. It is possible because if you have IE5 and Windows Scripting Host (standard features on Win2K and WIn98) then basically anybody that is clever enough can do what they want with your system. This is not a malicious script, but the potential is there. If you are using a Win box be forewarned, security is an afterthought at best at Microsoft. Getting you to buy it is the number one priority. This should be another warning shot to Windows users everywhere. Windows is riddled with flaws and bugs, consider another operating system if reliability and security are priorities. ZDNet BubbleBoy Story
